Over the past decade the way in which a business gets their message across to their audience has evolved with digital platforms and tools becoming a major player. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram being at the front of this change.
Using social media as a marketing tool, makes good business sense as it has becoming a staple in everyday life, it is free, and you can reach a wide audience, but social media is only as good as the person using it.
West Lothian Chamber of Commerce has been using social media as a regularly part of our promotional activities for years and have built up a strong following, below we share our top 5 times on how you can get your message across in the right way.
Your social media platforms should be integrated into your marketing plan ensuring they are regularly updated to ensure a good impression to anyone who visits your page, providing them with a call to action.
If you are setting up a page, make sure there are not big chunks of time with no activities as this can be off-putting and can actually make your audience switch off.
2.Showcase your brands personality
Make sure your pages on any social media platform represent your brand. View your pages as an extension to your website, where you can interact with your audience. Make sure your posts represent what your business ethos is, ensure anything that is shared reflect your business to help create a unique, easy to identify profile.
3.Focus on providing value
To be successful within the social media world it needs more than simple posting once or twice a week, you need to offer something of value to your audience. Make sure you include relevant news, offers and updates around the sector your business works in, as this will help the audience to see you as a place to go to be informed. Although, this does not mean to never post anything that is ‘fun’ such as following hashtag trends, competitions, quotes, etc but to have a good balance between the two.
4.Don’t go solo, collaborate, and listen
What we mean from this is don’t be afraid to share relevant content from other pages and tag other businesses where appropriate in your own posts, as this not only a good way to raise your credibility, it showcases that you are willing to collaborate and opens up your audience to the followers of the other pages.
Ensure you listen to your audience, is there a particular type of post that works well? How does your audience engage? Do they provide any feedback via comments? Analyse your pages progress and see what is popular or use feedback you receive to improve your posts.
5. Think Visually
With so many posts heading onto your audience’s timeline, it is imperative that your post has something that will catch their eye and stop them scrolling past. Images and videos are a great way of communicating your message without having big blocks of text which can be ignored. If you do not have your own images ready, utilise sites that offer royalty free images such as Pixabay.com and unsplash.com.
