KIND-HEARTED 4-YEAR-OLD CYCLING TO RAISE MONEY FOR BARNSLEY CHARITY

Youngster bidding to raise £3000 by cycling on the Trans-Pennine Trail every day for up to 3 months

A four-year-old girl from Barnsley has embarked on climbing her very own ‘Everest’ – a daily cycling mission on the Trans-Pennine Trail to help raise money for a local mental health charity.

Chelsea Ellis from Kendray has taken to the saddle to raise money for the Rethink Mental Illness charity and plans to cycle four miles every day for up to three months as a thank you to the staff from the charity who looked after a member of her family recently.

Chelsea has just learnt to ride her bike without stabilisers during the UK lockdown and her mum Keeley, said that whilst her daughter had wanted to ‘give something back’ to Rethink Mental Health in Barnsley, she set her own goal of 4 miles a day – a distance to match her age! She believes this is at a level that she’s comfortable with, however, Chelsea will not be under any pressure to complete the daily distance if she’s unable to. It will be done at her own pace.

“I was talking to Chelsea about the charity, and she asked if she could help in some way,” said Keeley. Chelsea then suggested a bike ride and we agreed that she would cycle 4 miles every day during lockdown.”

So far, Chelsea, with the help of her family keeping to social distancing guidelines, has cycled every day on the Trans Pennine Way. It’s an amazing feat for someone so young, but she’s very determined.”

Keeley also remarked that this has been a great way to keep Chelsea active and healthy while raising money for a good cause at the same time.

Chelsea hopes to raise around £3000 for Rethink Mental Health.

Word of Chelsea’s fantastic achievement reached Michael Field, managing director of Livingston, West Lothian-headquartered Workflo Solutions, an outsourced managed services provider with a regional hub based in Accrington, East Lancashire.

Michael was so impressed with Chelsea’s achievement that he has presented her with a brand-new bike and has agreed to help meet any shortfall on the total amount she raises for Rethink.

He comments,

“Chelsea has been an inspirational to all of us at Workflo Solutions. She is a determined little lady and I’ve no doubt we’ll be digging deep to match the monies she raises. She’s just remarkable to be taking on such a challenge at such a young age.”
