Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity- Living Advent Calendar – Get Involved
Last year, for the first time, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity created a Living Advent Calendar in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. Rather than distributing out chocolate advent calendars, which a majority of children and young people in the hospital are unable to enjoy, our Living Advent Calendar ensured that no child or young person spending time in hospital over the festive period missed out on the magic of Christmas. It captured the imagination and creativity of children, young people, families and staff in the hospital in such a phenomenal way that we have decided to go ahead and create it again this year.
Behind a different door in the hospital throughout the first 24 days of December will be an activity that we fund through our ECHC Arts Programme, with the opportunity for children to get involved. From our resident magician, Tricky Ricky, performing magic tricks, to the visit of Hibs and Hearts football teams; festive storytelling to Christmas songs with Tinderbox Music Collective, we ensure that the hospital experience for children and young people over Christmas is magical, and not just medical.
With the disappointing news about the new hospital not opening back in July, and now having to wait until Autumn 2020 before the move, it is more important than ever that we are able to continue our work of supporting the children, young people and families spending time in hospital this winter, and of course the staff who work tirelessly to give them the best possible care.
Would your company consider gifting a door for this year’s Living Advent Calendar? Gifting a door costs £500 and will enable ECHC to create a magical and festive masterpiece for children and young people spending the Christmas period in hospital.
