SCC comment on no-deal tariff plans
Commenting on the announcement of new tariffs in the event of a no-deal Brexit, Dr Liz Cameron, Director/Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
‘’If the tariffs published today by the UK Government were to come to fruition, there would be winners and losers across UK industry. These changes would be sudden ones, and in the midst of a potential disorderly exit from the EU, would cause an unwelcome shock to many businesses across the UK that would be affected by them.
“Maintaining targeted protections on tariffs in key areas such as the car industry are welcome. However, it is hard to be optimistic when the wider business community has not had enough consultation, preparation or planning to support those firms who would be most affected.
“As MPs vote tonight, this is yet another reason why they must act to avoid a disorderly exit from the EU.”
